Bavester lifts the R Brown Cup

10th June 2019

Harvey Bavester lifted the 2019 R Brown Cup over the weekend with a fantastic 36 holes.

Bavester carded a 68net in the morning session which put him in contention for the afternoon.  He then went on to score well with a shoot a 66 net giving him an overall score of 134 over the two round to clinch victory in this competition. 


Whiting takes the Presidents Putter

Lewis Whiting has won the 2019 Presidents Putter.

Whiting playing off a handicap of 2, shot a level par gross to win this years competition.  With a total of 3 birdies and 13 pars, he scored a 68 net, 3 ahead of his nearest rival Terry Lyons and Jack Warwick who shot 71 net.

It's a 63 for Bampton

Alan Bampton won division 1 with an impressive score of 63 in the weekend medal.  Going out in 39 and coming back in 36, Bampton had a total of 9 pars and 2 birdies.

Eamonn Bareham closely followed Bampton with a steady round of 65 net with Steven French equalling Bareham. 

Bartlett Russell combo have narrow victory

The Haverhill pair of Paul Bartlett and Lee Russell narrowly claimed victory this years HMP Foursomes.

The well contested event ended with a win for Bartlett and Russell by only one point.  In second place with a very respectable score was Darren Lyons and Paul Abbott, followed by Club Captain Peter Young and Conor Lenaghan.

Wasdall triumphs in Foundation Cup

Melissa Wasdall held her nerve to clinch her first Foundation cup victory.

Wasdall went into Easter Sunday with a slender two shot lead over nearest rivals Andrew Underwood and Owen Longley.

The confident ball striker ended up winning by one shot with a net score 73 in the final round over Longley who came back to reduce his deficit, running Wasdall close in the end.

There will undoubtedly be more in her trophy cabinet during the season if her great form continues

Melissa Wasdall shot an impressive 65 net to lead the first round of the Foundation cup played last Sunday.

Wasdall will now head into the final round 2 shots clear of nearest rivals Andrew Underwood and Owen Longley who finished their first round with a 67net score.

Captain's Drive In result

In variable conditions, Haverhill golf club members (Pictured L-R) Mark Barrett, Howard Craven, David Rosenwald, and David Mayers triumphed in the 2019 Captain's Drive in hosted by Peter Young (pictured centre).  

The quartet had a team score of 101, with Howard Craven shooting an impressive 76 gross playing off a handicap of 14.

Regardless of damp conditions, club captain Peter Young said "I was overwhelmed with the fantastic support I received by the members and the club.  It made me very proud to be the host as Captain of this event, which I couldn't have done without the support of my family and friends"  

Fish reels in the prize

Andy Fish successfully reeled in the Rosebowl  final shooting a solid gross score of 75 (net 71) last Sunday.

Fish led the way in a field of 26 with a total of 13 pars and beat his nearest rival Mark Firman by only one shot.  Firman was closely followed by Nigel Farenden who had a net score of 73.

New mats for Haverhill GC

Haverhill Golf Club has recently invested in new mats for our driving range.

As part of the club’s continued development, we have provided brand new golf mats for our driving range, which will enhance our facility further.  The club works hard to improve both on and off the course facilities and this is another step to provide members with great place to play golf.

McLennan wins the Jamie Warner Midweek Challenge

Peter McLennan scored an impressive 39 Stableford points to win the Jamie Warner midweek challenge.McLennan topping division 1, with 10 pars, beating his nearest rival Gerry Scott, who shot a solid score including 9 pars and 2 birdies in his round, only 4 points behind.Simon Youngs won division two carding 1 birdie and 5 pars beating his nearest rival, Simon Price, in a card play off.David Burns beat Paul Freeman in the division 3 contest with slender 1 point margin.

Weekend Mixed Medal results

4th March 2019

Brennan battles the wind to winCiarán Brennan battled some difficult conditions, while Storm Freya blew into the region on Sunday. Carding a solid 11 pars in total; Brennan beat his nearest rival Michael Bennett by 2 shots with a net score of 67.  Bennett, only one shot more (gross) than the winner, had a score of 79 on the day.Michael White in third place had another solid round finishing with a net score of 70 in the blustery conditions.

Foundation cup places are filling up fast

The 2019 Foundation cup at Haverhill Golf Club is proving a popular event.  The club is asking for members to book now to avoid disappointment.  Last years competition was won by Mathew Farlie (pictured above) and was very well contested.

The mixed gender singles medal competition over 2 x 18 hole rounds) already has over 50 players taking part. The competition is over 2 rounds, the first round taking place on Sunday the 14th April will be run in an 'as booked tee time' order.  The second round on Sunday 21st April will be drawn in order of the net score carded in round 1, with the lowest scores going out last.

Please note that as this competition is a 36 hole competition played over 2 rounds, then players handicaps must stay the same between rounds; this will mean that ALL qualifying competitionsbetween the rounds will be closed but will not update handicaps of any entrant until after the Foundation cup is completed.

Palmer Tops Division 1

26th February 2019

Russell Palmer won division 1 in the weekend medal which took place on Sunday 24th February.  With glorious spring like conditions, Palmer took advantage and  scored 37 points carding an impressive 3 birdies and 10 pars, beating Harvey Bavester in a card play off.  Lee Russell won division 2 scoring 37 points with 1 birdie and 7 pars beating Richard Baker by 1 point. Paul Freeman won division 3 with 1 birdie and 4 pars beating Robert Pyke by 2 points.

Martin Mansfield won this weeks Jamie Warner Estate Agent challenge, making it two victories in a row on the midweek competition division 1.  He carded 9 pars and 1 birdie, beating Andy Fish by 3 points. Mark Firman won division 2 with 7 pars beating Graham Hepworth in a card play off. S W Tatum won division 3 with 3 pars beating Robert Spittle by 4 points.

More gender-free Medal dates released

20th February 2019

Haverhill golf club members can now enter the newly released dates for gender-free medals.  The following dates are now available on the 3rd & 23rd of March 2019. These are turn up, sign in, play and enter your score qualifying medals.

2nd hole re-opens

15th February 2019

Following some fantastic work by Glenn and the greens staff, the 2nd hole has re-opened for play this weekend.  The bunkers will be in play, however, the bare earth surrounding them should be treated as GUR, although not marked as such. These areas will be turfed early next week.  Please do not touch the drip line around the edge of the bunker.  Also be aware the sand in the bunkers has not been compacted yet so if you do go in them your ball will be more likely to plug.

Best to steer clear of the beach!!

Sign up now for the Captain's Drive In

You can now sign up to this years Captain's Drive In, which takes place on the 7th April.  

Club Captain Peter Young would like to invite you to support this event with teams of four, and you can now sign up using the Mixed noticeboard in the clubhouse.

This fantastic event is a team Stableford  format (90% handicap allowance), with the best two scores on each hole.

Entry is only £15 for adults and £10 for juniors, which includes a carvery post round.

Weekend medal results

12th February 2019

Martin Mansfield claimed victory in the weekend medal played on February the 10th, with 8 pars in his round earning 34 points in total.Martin clinched the win by only a single point ahead of runner up David Pipe carding 33 points.

Mickleson makes it a record equalling 5 wins at Pebble beach

11th February 2019 

Phil Mickleson has won his 5th AT&T Pebble beach Pro-Am.  

The American birdies the final hole to finish 3 clear of Paul Casey who led going into the final round.  Mickleson claimed his 44th PGA tour victory 28 years after his first.

Is this a good omen for the world number 17 to claim a Career Grand Slam and win the elusive US Open also at Pebble beach later this year

Paul Casey leads the way into the final round at the AT&T Pebble beach Pro-Am.

The Englishman, currently ranked world number 24, has continued his good form of 2018 into this year and will be looking to win his 3rd PGA tour event.  Mickleson leads the chasing pack only 3 shots behind the leader who will be looking for his 5th AT&T Pebble beach Pro-Am win 

Mayor's Charity Golf day

On Friday, 15 March we are the venue for The Mayors Charity Golf Day and your support will help two fantastic charities we could all need in the future.  HGC members entry is £30 which includes food and prizes after your game, please do not look at this as you are paying £30 to play your own course, you are not.  You are supporting these worthy causes, enjoying a social day with a partner of your choice in a fourball of your choice, having a bite to eat and maybe finishing on the podium?
